The workshop is focused on professional Fashion and Beauty photography. It is a fun day filled to the brim with information. We give students an insight into the fashion industry and all the steps and processes involved in creating a professional fashion or beauty shoot. We go over simple and effective lighting techniques, posing models and tips and tricks. But most importantly also cover all the “nuts and bolts” involved in shooting fashion successfully from concept development, mood boards the photographers role and communicating with your team. Planning shoots, story boarding a shoot through to layout and what magazines and agencies expect. We also discuss look book’s campaign shoots and other fashion related photography work.

The Auckland workshops are currently held at Kingsize studios in Auckland New Zealand. We are also Looking to run one in Sydney Australia in 2014 - possibly Melbourne if this interests you please email us.
There are no set dates as it depends on how busy Fiona is so far we have run them since 2010 and there will be three possibly four in Auckland in 2014.
The next one is April 6th 2014.
There is a maximum of 15 people at the Workshop and I have two assistants to help the day run smoothly.
The morning is spent as an open discussion going over everything you ever wanted to know about shooting fashion and beauty. At 11am our two agency models, the hairdresser, makeup artist and wardrobe stylist arrive. After lunch we discuss and demo two beauty and two fashion looks per model and you get to see the team and everything we discussed first hand in action. When you email to register your interest you will be sent a PDF of the outline of the day.
There is no prerequisites but the workshop is primarily aimed at photographers who have a very good understanding of the fundamentals of Photography and want to take their work to the next level. We often have a mixture of tertiary Photography students and seasoned professionals who want to delve into the fashion industry and/or give their work a fresh perspective and learn from the best.
If you are already shooting agency models you will still get a lot from this workshop especially if you are wanting to get your work published and gain an understanding of conceptualising an idea into images.
No the Workshops is demo based only as we have to fit a lot of info into the day. If you ever wanted to be a fly on the wall at a high end fashion shoot and ask all the questions you ever wondered about then this is your chance.
You will learn about all the components involved in high end high fashion - not just lighting techniques and the workshop is run by Fiona Quinn who has been actively shooting in the industry for over 15 years and is actually successful shooting fashion beauty and advertising. Much has changed in that time and there is so much more to fashion photography than just taking photos. We also have a whole team there on the day - the best in the business just like there would be at a professional shoot so you learn how it all fits together and what is needed. A lot of Workshops don't have high end models and a top wardrobe stylist onboard like we do. We want you to see first hand how magazine quality images are created and the images from the day often end up published.
A notebook and a pen and a brain ready to absorb - a full set of notes will be given out covering everything discussed so you can concentrate on the day ad refer to them later. Morning and afternoon tea are provided but you will need to sort out your own lunch - there are cafès nearby and the studio has a kitchen.
The total cost for the day is $490.00 including GST - this is the price for both Sydney and Auckland. This paid first in a deposit of $200 when you confirm your attendance and then the remainder is paid one week before the Workshop. Invoices will be issued for tax purposes. Get in touch with us though to discuss payment options.
Complete the registration form and I will put you on the list and will contact you for confirmation once the minimum number of people is reached. Please do not message me on my Facebook page or blog as I need your email address to keep track of everyone - we do not send unsolicited emails or keep/sell your email address.
